MEDIA AND CHURCH GROWTH

INTRODUCTION

It is not enough for the church to uphold tradition (i.e. constantly living in God), we must also transit (i.e. move in God) with time. Just as the world is moving through social media, the church must preach and uphold Christian tradition using the platforms of social media.  Social media is an arrow that can be used in diverse ways by a mighty church. We must use it to attack and expose evils of this generation.

MEDIA AND CHURCH GROWTH

TEXT: Acts 17:28

Social media platforms are communities where people from all over the world come together for various reasons. Most youths who are not active in the church are active there. Since almost all youths and teenagers are on social media, parents too should be there ahead of their wards to guide them.

We must emphasize our tradition (which is living in God in accordance with our text) and as well be part of the social transition (i.e. moving in God). The church has a very rich tradition that must be passed to succeeding generations without losing an iota of it. Social media can be used as a tool to achieve this.

CHURCH IN TRANSITION

The present generation is living in a digital age and we must adapt our methods in the light of the current trends in communication in order to get across to them. There is exposure on social media and parents must be the first point of contact on the social platforms so that they can teach their wards issues of life.

The church has a vital role to play by educating parents, youths, teenagers and younger wards on the good usage of social media. The church cannot afford to preach ‘analogue’ (outdated) message to digital (contemporary and forward-looking) brains without risking the loss of its young generations.

CONCLUSION

As a church, it is not enough to be on social media we must be well educated in terms of the current methods of communication and relationship so that we would not give ‘analogue’ (outdated) answers to digital (contemporary) questions; or address digital concerns with analog outlook.

Alvin Toffler said “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn”.
