INTRODUCTION

Averagely, more people celebrate Mothers than Fathers. We are all familiar with the gratitude and accolades given to mothers by children, while fathers are often surcharged. This message will discuss roles and significance of the father in parenting.

  1. THE MARK OF A RESPONSIBLE FATHER
    1. He chose his wife carefully – 29:18, 27&28
    2. He intensifies love for his wife – 31:4
    3. He loves and cares for all his children (37:14) including care for their safety –Gen.32
    4. Stays awake all night to pray for his family – 32:22-24
    5. Makes provision for their upkeep – 42:1-2
    6. Ensures his family remains united even after his demise. 49:1
  2. THE CHALLENGES OF A GOOD FATHER
    • Most responsible fathers are jack of all trade. He is a Plumber, Welder, Electrician, Carpenter, Home Doctor, Security officer, Driver, Priest, Bricklayer, Disciplinary officer, etc. When the wife is pregnant, a good man is also pregnant in the mind.
    • When his wife is pregnant in her womb, the man is pregnant in his mind. At pre-maternal labour and during labour, the man becomes the errand boy. He often suffers sleepless nights alongside his wife.
    • At old age, when they become grandparents, the man sacrifices his pleasure and convenience by allowing his wife to assist in the nursing of their grandchildren.

  1. IDENTITY OF AN IRRESPONSIBLE FATHER

An irresponsible father is revealed by the following: He is a drunkard, a smoker, prefers being at alcoholic joints and clubs rather than stays at home; he must have rushed to choose his life partner, he hates and violates her, has extramarital affairs; he has no time for his children, harsh on his children, careless about house chores and never bothers about family altar.

CONCLUSION

As a father, God expects us to be responsible to our family and be available for them. We are to be a godly role model. If your lifestyle falls under irresponsible father, go and make a change today. Finally, as a father, is there any trouble in your heart? Are you discouraged, frustrated, disappointed or down casted? You also have a father who cares far more than any earthly father, His name is Jesus Christ (Matt.7:9-11). Cast all your burdens on Him (Matt.11:28-30).
